When is the best time to drink matcha?

It can be taken at different times of the day depending on each person's purpose or needs.

In the morning, it is ideal to start the day with a dose of sustained energy and concentration. Many people choose to replace coffee with a good matcha tea.

Before exercising, it can help improve performance and endurance thanks to its combination of caffeine and antioxidants.

During the afternoon, it is helpful to keep you focused and energized without the negative effects of caffeine that you might experience with coffee.

It can even accompany meals to help with digestion.

Why is matcha a good replacement for coffee?

Matcha is a great alternative to coffee, offering more sustained energy without the abrupt spikes. It contains L-theanine, which improves concentration and promotes calm without jitters, and is less acidic, making it easier on the stomach. Plus, it's packed with antioxidants and its balanced caffeine reduces the risk of addiction.

Does matcha tea contain caffeine?

Yes, matcha tea contains caffeine. A 1g serving contains approximately 35mg of caffeine. Compared to an espresso (80mg), this is a small amount. However, it is recommended not to drink more than 3 cups of matcha per day.

Can it affect my sleep?

Matcha, by combining caffeine with L-theanine, tends to create a calming, alerting effect that can help reduce stress and anxiety, thereby improving sleep quality. However, for those who are sensitive to caffeine, it is recommended not to consume matcha at least 4-6 hours before bedtime to avoid potential sleep disruptions.

Is it suitable for times of stress?

It is indicated and highly recommended. Its balance of caffeine and L-theanine improves concentration and focus, helping to control stress and being the perfect natural and healthy substitute for energy drinks.

Can I drink matcha if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Matcha may be safe to drink during pregnancy or breastfeeding if consumed in moderation and taking into account the total caffeine content of the diet.

It is recommended not to exceed 200mg of caffeine daily and a 1-2g cup of matcha can contain 30-70mg.

However, at THE MATCHA BOWL, we suggest you consult your doctor for personalized recommendations.

What are the differences between organic and non-organic matcha?

In our case, we only use organic products. They are grown without the use of chemical pesticides, which is a completely healthy option, avoiding the health problems associated with the consumption of these residues. At the same time, it is friendly to the fields and the environment, reflecting our commitment to sustainability and respect for the environment.

What is the difference between green tea and matcha tea?

Green tea and matcha tea, like other types of tea, come from the same plant, Camellia sinensis , but are processed differently.

Green tea is grown in the sun and quickly dried after harvesting to stop oxidation. The leaves are then rolled and dried. The specific process may vary depending on the type of green tea.

In contrast, to produce matcha, tea leaves are grown in the shade during the last few weeks before harvest. This increases their chlorophyll and amino acid content, giving them their bright green colour. After harvesting, the leaves are steamed, dried and ground into a fine powder. High-quality matcha is ground in stone mills, with a grinding capacity of between 30-40g per hour.

Why is matcha more expensive than other green teas?

Matcha is much more complex to make than other teas, and its quality production is carried out exclusively in Japan using specialized techniques.

What is the difference between culinary and ceremonial matcha?

There are different grades of matcha that vary in price and quality. Culinary grade matcha, used in cooking, ice cream, and recipes, is the most affordable. Ceremonial matcha, on the other hand, is always first-harvest and is more expensive. The quality of ceremonial matcha can also depend on a number of variables, such as the region in which it is grown, the varieties used, or the production process and techniques used.

Are all ceremonial matchas the same?

Not at all. Its origin, process, texture, aroma, flavor and benefits will make the difference.

What antioxidants are found in matcha?

Matcha is rich in catechins, powerful antioxidants that are believed to have anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer and heart-healthy properties.
In fact, a single serving of matcha tea contains up to 137 times more antioxidants than 10 cups of conventionally brewed green tea.

How does matcha compare on the ORAC value scale for antioxidants?

The ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) scale measures the antioxidant capacity of foods by evaluating how they neutralize free radicals.
Matcha stands out for having one of the highest values on this scale, which positions it as one of the superfoods richest in antioxidants.

What is umami?

Umami is one of the five basic tastes, along with sweet, salty, sour and bitter. It is characterized by a savory and pleasant flavor, described as delicious.

Is it good for losing weight?

Yes! Matcha contains caffeine and EGCG, compounds that can help release stored fat in the body. This process, known as lipolysis, converts fat into energy. In addition, it can contribute to the reduction of body fat, especially when combined with regular exercise.

PREPARATION

How to prepare a good matcha?

It's very easy and will take you less than a minute!

1. Place 1-2 grams of matcha in a cup or chawan.

2. Add hot water (80ºC) and beat with the chasen (bamboo whisk) in quick M or W movements, until the matcha dissolves completely.
complete and a soft, uniform foam is formed.

3. Enjoy your matcha alone with water or mix it with your favorite drink.

For best results, we recommend using quality tools such as a whisk and a bamboo spoon. These tools are specially designed to prevent lumps and help dissolve the matcha perfectly. Find these utensils in our store, or purchase one of our complete sets.

Does water temperature affect taste?

That's right! The ideal temperature for brewing matcha is 80°C. If the water is too hot, it can alter its umami flavour, making it more bitter and astringent.

What to take matcha with?

Matcha can be enjoyed with water or any other beverage, but we don't recommend combining it with cow's milk. This is because cow's milk can inhibit the absorption of some of the key nutrients in matcha, and its strong flavor can overwhelm the subtle and complex notes of the drink. On the other hand, many plant-based milks, such as almond, oat, coconut, etc., offer lighter flavors that complement and enhance matcha in an ideal way.

Can it be taken both hot and cold?

Both options are perfect. However, the initial preparation must be done with hot water (80ºC) to dissolve the matcha well. Then, if you prefer to enjoy it cold, add ice or mix it with ingredients of your choice.

Can I use matcha in my recipes?

Of course! Matcha is incredibly versatile and you can incorporate it into a wide variety of drinks, desserts, recipes and even cocktails. If you are thinking of using it for a specific preparation, we recommend visiting our matcha comparator, where you can find the one that best suits your creations.

PACKAGING AND STORAGE

How do I store my matcha once it has been opened?

Once opened, matcha should be stored in a dark, cool, dry place or in the refrigerator. It is important to keep it in its original packaging and make sure the lid is tightly closed.

IMPORTANT: Avoid using glass or translucent containers, as exposure to light can accelerate oxidation, negatively affecting their properties and flavor.

Does matcha expire?

Matcha does not actually expire, but it does oxidize over time. Once opened, we recommend consuming it within 3 months to maintain its freshness and benefits.

Why does it lose color intensity?

Once opened, the chlorophyll that gives matcha its vibrant green color begins to oxidize, which can cause it to lose its intense color and some benefits. Oxidation is a natural process and matcha is still safe to consume. We recommend consuming it within 3 months of opening to maintain optimal freshness.

Are the cans BPA free?

Yes, our cans are food grade and BPA free.

Is your packaging recyclable?

Yes, all our packaging is recyclable. We have invested a lot of time and effort into making sure it is easy to recycle and into pioneering sustainable practices.
